Baby Massage & Baby Yoga Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Book Onto a Course?

Please see the booking section of the Classes and Prices page beneath the google calendar.

Where Is the Best Place to Park for the Classes?

Please see the Venues page for details of parking, directions and a map.

How Old Should Baby Be?

Our Baby Massage and Baby Yoga classes are suitable for babies aged 6/8 weeks (they need to have had their 6/8 week check with the doctor prior to the start of your chosen course) to approximately 9-12 months - or until they start crawling off!

Where Are The Courses Held?

Most of the Urban Kneads courses are run from the Mother and Baby Center in Nottingham city centre.

Alternatively, our Baby Massage classes can also be run in the comfort of your own home to avoid the stresses of getting organised and driving to another venue.

What About A Baby Massage or Yoga Group Course At Someone's Home?

Baby Massage courses can be run as a group session and it will be up to the hostess to arrange the time and date with Urban Kneads, and inform her group.  You may have an antenatal or NCT group who wish to learn together and these courses can also be held at my studio rather than someone's home.

If there is a very large group of you, it may be more suitable to look at using a local community room so that everyone has sufficient space during the class. Do contact me if you think this might be the case with your group.

What Do We Need For A Course Run At Home?

We will need enough space for the babies to lie infront of mum/dad. Ideally we would like to sit in a circle or semi-circle so that everyone can see and be seen whilst massaging or doing the yoga.

The room should ideally be bright and warm enough for us to sit comfortably in short sleeves.  For massage we need to try and avoid drafts and loud noises which could obviously detract from baby's enjoyment of their massage!

It's best if baby is not too tired or hungry. Ideally feed baby about 1 - 1.5 hours before the session although in the real world I appreciate this is not always possible!

What Is Covered In The Baby Massage Course?

The 3-week course covers everything you need to know about massaging your baby. You will be finish the course feeling confident in the massage strokes and what your baby enjoys.  We cover:

Benefits of massaging your baby
Contraindications to massage
Which oils to use
When to massage baby
When not to massage baby
Massaging the legs, buttocks, arms, chest, abdomen, back and face
Strokes to use if baby suffers from colic or digestive problems
What to do when baby starts crawling

Each week we build your confidence in massaging baby by concentrating on a different topic and learning a massage routine for a different area of the body. There is plenty of interaction with baby and time for any questions that arise.

What Is Covered In The Baby Yoga Course?

Please see the 'What Is Baby Yoga?' page.

What If My Baby Cries In The Class?

It's okay for your baby to cry in the session! Please do not feel anxious about your baby crying in a class - it will not disturb anyone else. Remember everyone is in the same boat.

Your baby may be tired or a bit hungry, or have a bit of trapped wind, which may cause them to cry. They may not like a particular move or stroke or maybe they just need a cuddle.

You are free throughout the class to attend to your baby's needs, whether it be to comfort, change or feed her.
